Antonio and Kobi Jackson
Purchasing a home provided us
with a sense of accomplishment.
When Antonio and Kobi Jackson decided that it was time to purchase a home they weren’t sure where to begin. Both in their twenties with a son, and a daughter on the way, Antonio worked two jobs while Kobi worked full time. Schedules were hectic and moving between rental apartments to accommodate their growing family was becoming arduous. Time was invaluable and they knew they wanted to live where they both had grown up, Northeast Portland. In 2003, at the time of their housing search, Northeast Portland just started to become a very competitive market. Homes that were going for below medium price were now pushing the mid $200,000 range and highly sought after. For sale signs were barely posted before they were taken down.
Antonio and Kobi were intimidated and overwhelmed at first, but after being put in contact with a staff member at Portland Housing Center their entire perspective began to change.
“Going into it we didn’t know what we qualified for. Throughout the educational process we learned a lot more and were given opportunities to find assistance. We didn’t know about the various loan and saving programs, such as the Oregon Bond, IDA and Closing Assistance Program when we first started. As we were taking the classes through Portland Housing Center and talking with different people, the doors started opening. Things were just falling into place.”

For Antonio and Kobi, Portland Housing Center proved to be their most valuable resource on their path to homeownership. They were provided the tools and resources necessary to make the process a smooth one. The Jackson’s purchased the home shortly after entering the program. They have since spent endless hours transforming their vision into a beautiful reality.
“The process went better than I ever thought. Purchasing a home provided us with a sense of accomplishment.”
